Pennies & Dimes

During a rather ferral wedding reception I had just emptied my second Corona. My wife noticed my wistful expression & asked me what I was thinking. I believe she was expecting a reflection on our own long passed nuptials. Instead I told her I was thinking about my next beer. It sounded like a good line to me & the song quickly made its' presence felt.
I was thinkin’ ‘bout my next beer &I waqs lookin’ out the door.
I was thinkin’ ‘bout the women who don’t want me any more.
And I was lookin’ for the money that I dropped on the floor.
You know, pennies can look just like a dime.

And I found Rosie’s picture when it fell out of a book.
I looked into those eyes she summed me up with just one look.
Tried to tell myself I miss her but somehow we never took.
Though, I tried to be so charmin’.

Rosie told me about her lovers talked about living in a car.
More than one had hurt her bad but you can’t see taht scar.
She said watch out for evert one of them no matter who they are.
And there’s some can be so charmin’.

The parlor of the Star Hotel was a shabby shade of green.
Rosie said do what you will & I’ll just do as I please.
And underneath the table Rosie’s hand moved like a thief.
She made me feel so charmin’.

But it ain’t no use pretending that we ever stood a chance.
True love’s way’s by faith & trust ours lay in circumstance.
Be light on your feet she said if you’re gonna fight or dance.
Then you’ll appear to be so charmin’.

I put the picture away slipped the book back on the shelf.
You may never fool nobody else but you’ll always fool yourself.
If I had another beer, well I’d drink Rosie’s health.
And wouldn’t I be so charmin’.
