Finally, here's the updated version that appears on Sinbad Ranch. Not offering any grand solutions here - just a musical postcard from a very sad place. I wrote this a few years back when the horror in Jenine was the media's current focus. I revised it in '03 to include the line about Rachel Corrie (visit www.rachelcorrie.com) Musically you will find a world beat with a solid American Rock rhythm, hinting at influences like The Doors, the Stones or even Steppenwolf - names not normally dropped by someone who is essentially a folk musician.
There's blood on the sand there's a bomb on the bus
There's a madman pointin' his finger at us
Blood on the road wreckage all around
Blood in the sky as the sun goes down.
God bless the meek & the children with guns
Yeah God must love us everyone
God must love us, it's gotta be true
He loves Smith & Wesson, Kalishnikov too
Down there by the crossroads, they’re lookin’ for a sign
But no-one knows which way to go on the Road to Palestine.
Daniels harp plays a heartbreak sound
Lines are drawn through the center of town
Liberty’s long been lost at sea
So long ago now don’t matter to me (remember the Liberty...)
The tv camera’s got a one eyed stare
Can’t see God ‘cause he ain’t there
Out of the sky see the fallin’ dove
It’s buried in the rubble next to peace & love.
Mountains fall away, there’s nothin’ left behind
But tears & tank tracks in the dust on the Road to Palestine.
Do you stand in the middle do you hide in the crowd
Do you hang on the fringe do you yell real loud
Remember Rachel Corrie when she made her stand
Would you stand beside her would you hold her hand
Crescent moon sits helpless, in the ancient empty sky
Stars are only teardrops on the Road to Palestine
