STEPHEN LOMAS: Music

Feels Like Hawaii

(Stephen Lomas)
1999

I guess things could always be worse... I was driving my fine VW bus bitching about the humidity - even Southern California has a nasty muggy spell around October. The A/C wasn't working but the radio was. A story came on about how just a little ways down south of us, this same weather system was tearing Acapulco apart with a hurricane. Still, all we could do was bitch about the "Bloody Weather!"
There’s a hurricane down in Baja
Everybody’s leavin’ town.
Blocking up all the windows
nailing everything down.
Unbelievable things are happenin’
In all that wind & rain.
Tide’s so high, it’ll touch the sky
Wash everything away
Wash everything away...

But up here it’s like Hawaii
Now my garden’s al ablaze
And I’m thin’ all about coconuts
And grass skirt girls in lais.
And it feels just like Hawaii
Takin’ off my flowered shirt.
Air’s so warm from the tropical storm
Find some shade, so I don’t get burnt.

(chorus) Nothin; wrong with feeling good
When you find, some paradise
You think you could? Well, you really should
You don’t get to do this twice

And it feels just like Hawaii
Watchin’ surfers ride the swell
And the women look so easy
But I guess, you just can’t tell.
And it feels just like Hawaii
Now the night’s turned soft & cool.
Gentle breeze, dancin’ in the trees
And the moon’s grinning, like a fool.

(chorus)

And it feels just like Hawaii
And it feels just like Hawaii

There’s that hurricane down in Baja
Takin’ everything in the flood
Washin’ homes off the hillside
Buryin’ the streets in mud
Buryin’ the streets in mud
